Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott both made half centuries for Hobart
Hobart: Adelaide Strikers 177-6, Hobart Hurricanes 178-3 - Hobart Hurricanes win by seven wickets
Hobart Hurricanes have gone level on points with Adelaide Strikers after chasing down a healthy total with ease, led by Caleb Jewell's rapid half century.
Having not fully fired in their first five matches of this Big Bash campaign, a batting line-up that looks as powerful as any on paper finally enjoyed lift-off at Blundstone Arena.
Jewell (54) brought up his fifty off just 25 balls, while opening partner Ben McDermott (53) went to fifty in 29 balls as the back of a potentially difficult run-chase was broken early on.
They were both bowled – Jewell by a Peter Siddle yorker, McDermott missing an attempted ramp off Wes Agar – but by then Hobart were well on their way to the 178 runs needed for a crucial victory, which was picked up without Shadab Khan, who was missing with an injured finger and will now head to join up with Pakistan's white-ball squads.
Matthew Wade miscued a reverse-sweep to give Rashid Khan a wicket, but the Afghanistan great was unusually expensive – his four overs costing 43 runs – as Hurricanes flexed their muscles. He might have had another had Agar not dropped a straightforward chance to dismiss Tim David.

Thereafter, David and D'Arcy Short raced to their target without further alarm, winning with 16 balls remaining to give their net run rate a boost.
Earlier, Strikers had limped to 177 for 6 in their 20 overs, with Chris Lynn's 87 vital for Adelaide. Only Matthew Short (38) and Colin de Grandhomme (30) joined him in reaching double figures, with Hobart's attack restricting the visiting side to a par score.
Riley Meredith picked up Henry Hunt for just three, before Short's attempt to break loose was curtailed when he chipped a Nathan Ellis full-toss to mid-off. Adam Hose didn't pick a fine delivery from Patrick Dooley, while de Grandhomme holed out to deep cover. Rashid was run out off the final ball of the innings.
