South East Stars have signed South Africa international Tazmin Brits on a short-term contract.

Brits, a batter and occasional wicketkeeper, will be available for four Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy matches in July, starting with the Stars' clash with Northern Diamonds on July 2.

The South African will add valuable international experience to a Stars squad missing a number of England players.

She has played 12 ODIs and 36 T20Is for South Africa, including scoring 68 runs from 55 balls against England in the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup semi-final. She finished the tournament as the fifth-highest run-scorer.

Emma Calvert, regional director of women's cricket at Surrey, said: "We're looking forward to welcoming Tazmin to our setup. She's a seasoned international cricketer who has consistently shown her abilities on the biggest of stages for South Africa.

"As we look to build on our encouraging start in the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy, Tazmin will bring a wealth of experience as well as more depth and quality to our batting line up. We are confident that she will prove to be a valuable addition to the Stars."

Brits added: "I am thrilled to join the Stars and am really looking forward to playing in English conditions for the first time in my cricket career.

"The Stars are an outstanding team, they have played impressive 50-over cricket, and I hope that I will be able to help the team in their aim to qualify for the finals. I'm also looking forward to working with Johann [Myburgh] and his team of coaches as well as."

South East Stars are currently second in the table, with three wins and two defeats from five matches.
