Aneurin Donald has suffered a setback in his recovery from a long-term knee injury and is a doubt for the start of Hampshire's County Championship campaign.
The former Glamorgan batter underwent surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament in December 2019 and missed the whole last season.
Donald, who signed a new two-year deal with The Ageas Bowl club in February, had hoped to start the new campaign injury-free but must wait to return.
"It's something we're monitoring in the coming days," director of cricket Giles White told BBC Radio Solent. "But he's a question mark for the season start.
"We're not quite sure of the exact extent, but over the next couple of days it should become a lot clearer."
Since moving to the south coast in 2019 Donald has played 27 matches across all formats for the club, scoring 888 runs.
Hants face Leicestershire at Grace Road when they kick-off their campaign on April 8.
