Brad Wheal signs Hampshire contract extension

The 25-year-old, who will represent Scotland at the 2021 T20 World Cup, took 34 wickets in the 2021 County Championship and 17 wickets in the T20 Blast as Hampshire reached Finals Day

Brad Wheal has signed a contract extension with Hampshire to keep him with the club until at least the end of the 2023 season.

The fast bowler, who first arrived at the club from South Africa in 2015, was instrumental in the Hawks reaching T20 Blast Finals Day, taking 17 wickets in 13 appearances.

In the County Championship, he took a further 34 wickets at an average of 25.94 and contributed several important lower order knocks with the bat, scoring 181 runs at an average of 18.1.

Wheal also enjoyed a spell with London Spirit in The Hundred, taking nine wickets in three appearances.

The 25-year-old will represent Scotland in the upcoming T20 World Cup and has taken 28 wickets in 19 white-ball appearances for the national side.

Commenting on securing Wheal’s services until 2023, Hampshire’s director of cricket, Giles White, said: "Brad has become an integral part of the team across all formats. He’s very popular; gives his all for the team and is calm under pressure.
