Former England batsman Jonathan Trott was on hand to present Matt and Julie Bourne of Chippingdale CC with their reward for winning the Hardys Heartbeat of the Club 2018.

The cricket-loving couple from Sussex have dedicated almost two decades of their lives to their local team, from working on the committee and helping with the accounts, to organising tours and running the Colts programme, the Bournes have done it all.

To reward them for their fine service to their club, Hardys sent Trott and the Hardys Wine Pavillion - the mobile wine bar that stops at every England international during the summer - to Chippingdale for a party.

The Bournes said: "We are extremely proud to have won such a prestigious National Award but are well aware that this award isn’t just for the two of us, it really is for all of us who work hard behind the scenes to keep the Club moving forward both on and off the field.

"It still feels somewhat surreal that Jonathan Trott was down at The Rotary mingling with Club Members and helping out with the Colts. It is an incredible end to an incredible season for the Club and the Hardy’s Wine Pavilion Day was just exceptional."

Talking about the importance of the work the couple do, Trott explained: "People like Matt and Julie are really integral in shaping how the game is played, and making sure that it is played in the right spirit – which is the most important thing. It’s not only about winning.

"Obviously, it’s nice to be successful, but playing the right way makes the experience of playing club cricket enjoyable. If that happens then you get more people playing and wanting to play club cricket.

"Often people don’t get the recognition that they deserve so to have an award like this is great. I think the prize that Hardys have given makes it a nice day, not only for the Bournes but for everyone at Chippingdale. They all get to spend a nice November’s day outside drinking some great wine."

Jonathan Trott was celebrating Matt & Julie Bourne being crowned Hardys Heartbeat of the Club 2018.
