Marcus Harris returns to county cricket with Gloucestershire

Following a spell with Leicestershire, the Australia Test opener will spend the next two summers at Bristol and be available across all formats

Gloucestershire have confirmed the signing of Australia Test opener Marcus Harris for the next two seasons.

The 29-year-old will be available across all formats during 2022 and then 2023, when the Ashes are played in England.

Harris spent last season with Leicestershire but his spell was cut short to Covid-19-related travel issues.

He scored 655 runs in the LV=Insurance County Championship and added another 232 in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Capped 10 times by Australia in Tests, Harris is back with Victoria ahead of the Sheffield Shield during which he'll hope to nail down an Ashes place.

"I’ve heard nothing but great things about the club and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity," Harris said.

"The other aspect that attracted me to Bristol is the opportunity to play in the T20 Blast for the very first time. 

"I’d also like to thank Leicestershire for giving me my first opportunity to play county cricket. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I wish them all the very best for next season."

Interim head coach Ian Harvey added: "Marcus is a tremendous player who has shown an ability to score a lot of runs in both red-ball and limited-overs cricket. 

"He has opened the batting for Australia at Test level and has come in at three in county cricket so we know wherever he slots in, he will make big scores."
