South Africa have named the uncapped trio of Christiaan Jonker, Junior Dala and Heinrich Klaasen for the upcoming T20 clashes with India
JP Duminy will captain South Africa's T20 side against India
South Africa have named the uncapped trio of Christiaan Jonker, Junior Dala and Heinrich Klaasen for the upcoming T20 clashes with India.
Warriors batsman Jonker, 31, averages 28.35 from 74 T20 innings over the course of his career, while Titans seamer Dala has 42 wickets in 49 matches.
Wicketkeeper Klaasen, who recently made his one-day international debut for the Proteas, has a strike rate of 143.00 in the format.
JP Duminy will captain the team in the absence of the injured Faf du Plessis, while Hashim Amla and Aiden Markram are rested as the selectors look to ensure their star players are primed for the Test series against Australia, which starts five days after the final T20 game against India.
Heinrich Klaasen has already made his ODI debut
"The next ICC World Twenty20 is not all that far away, in 2020, so it is important that we develop and examine our resources for that tournament," said CSA selector Linda Zondi.
"Christiaan Jonker has been one of the most explosive finishers in domestic T20 cricket in recent seasons and his selection, together with that of Junior Dala, gives players who have performed well at franchise level the opportunity to show that they can compete at the highest level. Heinrich Klaasen’s recent performance speaks for itself.
"Reeza Hendricks gets another opportunity for the same reason, having been the highest runs scorer in this season’s Ram Slam Challenge."
Squad: JP Duminy, Farhaan Behardien, Junior Dala, AB de Villiers, Reeza Hendricks, Christiaan Jonker, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Chris Morris, Dane Paterson, Aaron Phangiso, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jon-Jon Smuts
