Islamabad United have signed England international Liam Dawson as a replacement for Paul Stirling for the second half of the Pakistan Super League.

Top-order batter Stirling will leave the competition on February 7 to link up with Ireland ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in Oman.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a strong start to PSL7, smashing 57 runs off 25 balls during his side’s tournament opener against Peshawar Zalmi and his departure is a blow to United’s top order.

However, he will be available for their upcoming matches against Multan Sultans (February 1), Quetta Gladiators (February 3) and Lahore Qalandars (February 5) while the presence of Alex Hales, Colin Munro and Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the squad should mitigate his absence.

Dawson is not a like-for-like replacement for Stirling, with the England international bowling left-arm spin and batting down the order around no.6.

He has previously represented Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, scoring 363 runs at a strike rate of 125.60 and taking 11 wickets in 24 appearances.

Dawson will be available from February 10 and could make his debut for United against Quetta Gladiators on February 12.
