A player was approached with a view to fixing matches in the second edition of the tournament, which took place in December
An investigation into an alleged attempt to fix matches in the recent Lanka Premier League has been opened.
A complaint was lodged with Jagath Fonseka, head of the sports ministry's corruption prevention unit in Sri Lanka, following the conclusion of the recent Lanka Premier League.
According to Fonseka, a leading batter reported to the unit that he had been approached with a view to fixing matches in the second edition of the tournament, which took place in December.
"He told us that he had been approached by a rich gem businessman's son and a friend of the same man to do so. We have concluded our and forwarded the papers for the Attorney General," he said.
Any illegal manipulation, illegal betting, match fixing or corruption in sports in Sri Lanka is investigated by a special investigations unit, as per a law passed in 2019.
For the second year in a row, Jaffna Kings won the title, beating Galle Gladiators in the final. Avishka Fernando was named as player of the match and player of the tournament.
