Glamorgan seamer Michael Hogan has signed a new contract with the Welsh county.

The 38-year-old will now remain with the club until the end of the 2020 season, having played a key role at Glamorgan since relocating from Western Australia in 2012.

This season, as Glamorgan have moved to the top of Division Two of the County Championship, the veteran bowler has taken 20 wickets at an average of just 21.50. He took seven wickets in the match as his team moved to the summit of the division with a recent win at Bristol against Gloucestershire.

Hogan has been named the county’s player of the year twice – in 2013 and 2014, taking 344 wickets in 88 first-class matches since his arrival. In white-ball cricket, he has also thrived; he is the club’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket.

The former club captain said: “It’s always interesting when you get older you never know how your body is going to hold up after games but this year our rotation policy amongst the quick bowlers has kept me nice and fresh and I’m feeling good.

“I still think I can play at a high level and I’ve put in some good performances this year and there’s no reason I can’t carry that on in to all three formats next season.”

Director of cricket Mark Wallace added: “It’s great news that Michael has extended his stay at Glamorgan for another season.

“He has been a fantastic bowler for the club in all formats since his arrival and has shown this season he is still capable of putting in match-winning performances.

“He is the leader of the bowling attack and with his experience and record, the person the dressing room looks up to.

“We look forward to him carrying on his fine form over the next few months as we continue our promotion push and Vitality Blast campaign and then taking that into next year.”
