England's players have also been fined 40 per cent of their match fee for the second Test against New Zealand
England have been docked valuable World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate during the second Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
Ben Stokes’s side successfully chased down 299 – a record at the ground – to seal a five-wicket win over New Zealand and take an unassailable 2-0 lead into the final Test at Headingley.
However, they were ruled to be two overs short of the target and have been penalised two points.
England sit eighth in the World Test Championship table with 40 points, down from 42, while their point percentage has dropped from 25 to 23.80.
England’s players were also fined 40 per cent of their match fee for the offence. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC code of conduct, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl.
Stokes pleaded guilty to the charges, which were levelled by on-field umpires Michael Gough and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Martin Saggers, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
