Pakistan A claim unlikely victory over England Lions

The England Lions lost their four-day match with Pakistan A on Wednesday, having set the hosts a defendable target of 312.

Pakistan begun the fourth day in a surprisingly solid position of 132-2 after they had started their chase in the worst fashion possible the day before when opener Khurram Manzoor was dismissed with the first ball of the innings from Jamie Porter, before his opening partner was dismissed not long after by Mark Wood.

Abin Ali and Usman Salahuddin had steadied the ship remarkably, however, and put on a hundred partnership, with both batsmen bringing up their half centuries before the close of play.

They took this steadying act to another level, as they added another 50 more runs before Salahuddin was dismissed by Dominic Bess for 77.

There was no quick collapse to be found however, as captain Mohammad Rizwan joined Ali at the crease and looked as solid as his predecessor.

The pair set about continuing the trend, and Ali brought up his century off the bowling of Wood with his partner on 41, who was bowled by Porter not long after for 47.

By the time Rizwan departed, Pakistan were on 247-4 and the total was well in sight. The new man Saud Shakeel took matters into his own hands and batted aggressively.

Eventually Ali was removed by Bess for 113, but by this point Pakistan were 296-5 needing just 16 runs. Though Bess did then get the wicket of Ehsan Adil, it was not enough and Shakeel scored the winning runs with a four off Jamie Overton. He finished on 47 off 38 balls.
