Former England skipper Charlotte Edwards hails "unbelievable" Alice Capsey

The teenager starred in England's five-wicket win over Australia at Lord's, smashing 46 runs from 23 balls, and represents a fearless generation of young cricketers, according to Edwards

Former England captain Charlotte Edwards has heaped praise upon Alice Capsey, labelling the young allrounder "unbelievable".

England kept the Women's Ashes alive at Lord's on Saturday (July 8), defeating Australia by five wickets in a rain-affect T20I to narrow the scoreline of the multi-format series to 6-4 in the visitors' favour.

Capsey starred with the bat, smashing 46 runs off 23 balls, including sixes off Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen and four fours, to help her side successfully chase a DLS target of 119 with four balls to spare.

According to Edwards, she represents a fearless generation of young cricketers rising through the ranks.

"Alice Capsey in amazing," Edwards said on Sky Sports. "This is what she does. The younger talent in this England side, they've got no fear, they aren't fazed.

"We've got to remember Alice Capsey has played in two Lord's finals [in The Hundred], so tonight was just another day for her. It prepares her to play at these venues and to perform at this level.

"But to come out on the biggest of stages, after the run of form she's had, it's unbelievable from an 18-year-old. Everyone was saying, 'she's only scored 17 runs in her last five innings', but then provides that kind of innings.

"There's so many girls now wanting to play cricket and watching tonight thinking, 'I want to be the next Alice Capsey'."

Reflecting on her knock, Capsey admitted she's still searching for consistency: "T20 cricket, especially the way I play, sometimes I'm going to come off and sometimes I won't.

"It's just about getting better and trying to become more consistent at it. I've been working hard in the nets, and have been given a lot of backing by the coaching staff."
