Durham's Ben McKinney will captain England men Under-19s for the LV= Insurance first Test against Sri Lanka.

A 13-strong squad has been confirmed for the four-day match at Chelmsford, which begins on Sunday (August 21).

Included are several members of the World Cup squad that reached the final in the Caribbean.

Lancashire's George Bell and Tom Aspinwall, Alex Horton of Glamorgan and Yorkshire's Ben Cliff are selected from that run.

But 14 others in contention for selection, many of whom are involved either in the men's Hundred or the Royal London Cup, will remain with their counties.

Ben McKinney (Durham – captain), Tom Aspinwall (Lancashire), George Bell (Lancashire), Tommy Boorman (Gloucestershire), Ben Cliff (Yorkshire), Bertie Foreman (Sussex), Alex Horton (Glamorgan), Matthew Hurst (Lancashire), Eddie Jack (Hampshire), Dominic Kelly (Hampshire), Ben Parker (Worcestershire), Harry Singh (Lancashire), Ross Whitfield (Durham)

Rehan Ahmed, Sonny Baker, James Rew, Jacob Bethell, James Coles, Will Luxton, Tom Prest, James Sales and Fateh Singh are among those left out for the first of two Tests this summer.

With the group stage of the 50-over and 100-ball competitions concluding on August 23 and 31, respectively, many of those players may be recalled later down the line.

ECB's elite performance pathway coach said Richard Dawson said: "Already this season it’s been encouraging to see a number of the guys from our World Cup squad earning regular selection for their counties and making some significant contributions.

"The key for us when selecting a squad is working out with the counties what’s best for each individual player, and for the first Test match - in a number of cases - we agreed that it was best for them to continue playing domestic cricket.

"That removes some experience from our squad, but it also increases the challenge and opportunity for the guys who have been selected."

The second Test against Sri Lanka will be staged at Derbyshire's County Ground from August 28.

The Test series is followed by three youth ODIs at Worcester (September 5 and 8) and Leicestershire (September 10).

England's youngsters warmed up for the series by beating an Ireland Academy side by three wickets at Loughborough University.
