England

Jason Roy (123): Well and truly made up for his costly drop off Chris Gayle by scoring a hugely impressive hundred. A Test debut on the horizon? 10

Jonny Bairstow (34): Has a pretty exceptional record against the West Indies and looked in pretty good shape before top-edging one to the keeper. 7

Joe Root (102): A brilliant innings and looks to have fully got back into nick. England will be wishing it had come earlier, but take nothing away, he played beautifully. 10

Eoin Morgan (65): Could be criticised for not bring Adil Rashid on earlier, but scored well with the bat and helped to keep England's innings moving. 8

Ben Stokes (20* & 3-37): Bowled really well and took the important wicket of Gayle before he could exact more damage. Did his bit with the bat too. 8

Jos Buttler (4*): A weird position to be in, took one catch and exacted a stumping but scored the winning runs off his only ball. Guess all you can say is he did his job. 6

Moeen Ali (DNB & 0-85): Did not bowl that badly, but the West Indies batsmen took a bit of a fancy to him, which can happen to the best of spinners. 5

Chris Woakes (DNB & 2-59): Was the pick of England's bowlers and showed the foresight of England's management not to risk him during the Test series when he wasn't fit. 8

Liam Plunkett (DNB & 0-54): Did not enjoy his best day with the ball in hand, was expensive, but will have felt aggrieved not to have had Chris Gayle early on after Roy dropped a catchable chance. 5

Adil Rashid (DNB & 3-74): May have felt if he had been brought on earlier that he could have caused more of an impact. Bowled well. 8

Mark Wood(DNB & 0-49): Ran in and kept Chris Gayle quiet for the earlier overs but needs to start taking more wickets. 6

Jason Roy scored a brilliant hundred

West Indies

Chris Gayle (135): The Universe Boss showed that he has still got it with his 24th century. Also now has the most sixes in international cricket. 10

John Campbell (30 & 0-13): A promising debut, and another promising innings which indicates a player who could become quite a good batsman for the Windies. 7

Shai Hope (64)Looked far more comfortable and dangerous than he did during the Test series. Looked the more explosive of the two while playing with Gayle. 8

Shimron Hetmyer (20): A low score but got his runs quickly and took pressure off Gayle who seemed to flagging a bit at the time. 6

Nicholas Pooran (0): Not the debut the big-hitting youngster would have been hoping for. This will happen if you play as aggressively as he does though. 3

Darren Bravo (40): Looked very confident when he came in and scored a couple of rather large sixes. 7

Jason Holder (16 & 2-63): Did his bit with the bat and looked like he might be finally converting his red-ball bowling form to the white-ball formats.

Carlos Brathwaite (3 & 0-66): Ben Stokes got his revenge, well a little bit, when he dismissed the big allrounder. Worked hard bowling but didn't get many rewards. 5

Ashley Nurse (25* & 0-69): Deserves credit for scoring a six off the final ball of the Windies innings to get the world record for the most sixes in an ODI innings. Pretty ineffectual with the ball though. 6

Devendra Bishoo (9* & 1-78): Was inches from getting more wickets than he did and deserved his wicket once he got it. 7

Oshane Thomas (DNB & 1-72): Has impressed a few that saw him bowl out in Bangladesh. Certainly showed a bit of potential and deserved the wicket he got. 6

Chris Gayle was the West Indies standout player

It was truly a batsman's day. Gayle played astonishingly well. It is probably churlish to say this but I wonder if his reluctance to take singles cost the West Indies in any way. England seemed to be far busier throughout their innings and I wonder if their analysts can produce anything on that (ie to the effect that this is why England won) . Aside from Adil Rashid, I thought England's bowling was a bit samey and we seem to lack that x-factor in the middle overs. Maybe Jofra Archer should come in for Wood in the summer. Who knows? Well done to Root and Roy for their top knocks plus supporting hands from Messrs Bairstow and Morgan.
