Rob Key's latest appointment as managing director sees the vice-captain step up to the main role ahead of the India and South Africa matches in July
England men's white-ball teams will be captained by Jos Buttler following the resignation and subsequent international retirement of Eoin Morgan.
The Lancashire and Rajasthan Royals keeper-batter steps up from seven years as vice-captain - a role he has served across the formats - to link up with head coach Matthew Mott who is only three games into his premiership.
Buttler has previously led England in 14 limited-overs matches, most recently in the third ODI against Netherlands in Amstelveen.
The ECB interim chair Martin Darlow, and interim chief executive officer Clare Connor approved the appointment following the recommendation by the managing director of England men's cricket Rob Key.

Part of the side that won the World Cup in 2019, Buttler has established himself as one of the finest white-ball players England have ever had.
In 151 ODIs, he's scored 10 centuries including England's fastest against Pakistan in 2015.
From 88 T20s, Buttler has lashed 2,140 runs at a strike rate of 141.16. His one and only century for England in the format last November saw him become the first man to reach three figures in all three formats.
His tenure as permanent skipper begins with T20 and ODI series against India and South Africa in July, as the 50-over world champions build towards the 20-over showcase in Australia later in the year.

"It is a great honour to take over from Eoin, and the place he has left English white-ball cricket in is exciting, and I'm inspired for the challenges ahead," he said.
"There is excellent strength-in-depth in the white-ball squads, and I'm looking forward to leading the teams out for the series that are coming up against India starting next week and later in July against South Africa.
"It is the greatest honour to captain your country, and when I have had the chance to step in the past, I have loved doing it. I can't wait to take this team forward."
