Freddie McCann equalled the record for the highest under-19 ODI score for England as they piled on the runs against Sri Lanka.

McCann, 19, struck 22 fours and three sixes on the way to 174 off 139 balls in the second Youth ODI at Hove.

His 174 equals Dan Lawrence's effort in Chittagong against Fiji in the 2016 U19s World Cup. On that day England cruised to a 299-run victory as Sam Curran and Saqib Mahmood shared the new ball and both took three wickets.

Nottinghamshire youngster, McCann, is a left-handed opening batter and scored 243 for the Notts second team against Leicestershire earlier this month.

Sri Lanka's Hasitha Boyagoda has the highest U19 ODI score as he scored 191 against Kenya in the under-19 World Cup in 2018.

The highest U19 score against England was courtesy of Theo Doropoulos, who smashed an unbeaten 179 for Australia in 2003. Liam Plunkett, Tim Bresnan, and Samit Patel were amongst the bowling attack on that day.

McCann, who score 10 in the first game of the series, was ably supported by Noah Thain's 66 as England posted 360 for 7 from their 50 overs.

Captain Luc Benkenstein (4 for 77) helped restrict Sri Lanka as England won by 30 runs to level the series at 1-1.
