England name squads for Pakistan tour and T20 World Cup

Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have both missed large chunks of 2022 through injury but are considered fit enough to make the cut for the 15-man squad which will compete in Australia in October and November.

England have included Chris Woakes and Mark Wood in their T20 World Cup squad, but Jason Roy has been left out.

Woakes and Wood have both missed large chunks of 2022 through injury but are considered fit enough to make the cut for the 15-man squad which will compete in Australia in October and November.

Roy, however, has paid the price for a miserable summer and has not made the cut for either the seven-match tour of Pakistan or the World Cup.

Jonny Bairstow is instead likely to partner Jos Buttler at the top of the order at the World Cup, though he and Ben Stokes will sit out the Pakistan tour as they rest following their exertions with the Test side.

Chris Jordan is selected in the World Cup squad, despite injury curtailing his involvement in The Hundred with Southern Brave, while Yorkshire's Harry Brook and Reece Topley of Surrey make the trip. Tymal Mills, Liam Dawson and Richard Gleeson are travelling reserves.

Meanwhile, a separate 19-man squad for the games against Pakistan has been announced, which features several players who have impressed in the Vitality Blast and The Hundred.

Notts Outlaws batsman Ben Duckett, Kent Spitfires wicketkeeper-batsman Jordan Cox, Tom Helm of Middlesex, Surrey's Will Jacks and Luke Wood of Lancashire Lightning all feature.

Moeen Ali will lead the team for the first half of the tour as Buttler continues his recovery from a calf problem. Buttler will tour, however, and is expected to take on captaincy duties towards the end of the series.

Liam Livingstone will sit out the Pakistan matches as he recovers from an ankle issue, but is named in the World Cup squad.

The group are due to fly to Pakistan on September 14 and will play games in Lahore and Karachi.
