England have called up Liam Dawson for the World Cup.

The Hampshire allrounder, who did not feature in the five-match series against Pakistan in recent weeks, has been summoned into the final 15-man squad in place of Joe Denly.

Dawson has impressed for his county in the Royal London One-Day Cup this season and offers a reserve spin option, behind Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali.

National selector Ed Smith revealed on Tuesday that Rashid is still carrying a minor shoulder injury and that the issue played a part in Dawson's call-up.

The 29-year-old's left-arm spin has brought him 162 List A wickets over the course of his career, compared to the 47 scalps of Denly's legspin.

Dawson has subsequently been pulled out of Hampshire's game against Nottinghamshire in the County Championship, with Mason Crane filling in for the rest of the match on the Isle of Wight.

Jofra Archer makes the England squad

Jofra Archer has also been picked, having not been part of the preliminary squad named five weeks ago.

The rapid allrounder has only played three ODIs since having his eligibility fast-tracked earlier this year but has shown enough to force his way into the squad.

He gets in instead of David Willey, the Yorkshire left-armer who has been a major part of the England white-ball revolution over recent years.

James Vince is also included. Vince was called up as a replacement for Alex Hales for the Pakistan series after Hales' second failed recreational drugs test came to public attention.

England begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa at The Oval on May 30.
