England have dropped Jonny Bairstow and named four debutants in their 15-man squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand in November.

Leading County Championship run-scorer Dom Sibley of Warwickshire is called up for the first time, as is Kent's Zak Crawley.

Lancashire duo Matthew Parkinson and Saqib Mahmood, both 22, are included after encouraging campaigns particularly in the T20 Blast.

Surrey's Ollie Pope is recalled after recently going to his second first class double century.

James Anderson has been overlooked for selection due to an ongoing calf problem but is targetting a return in time for the South Africa series later in the winter.

Bairstow is the major casualty from the Ashes, a series in which he scored just 214 runs at 23.77. National selector Ed Smith and James Taylor are set to discuss the decision with the Yorkshireman, who has played 69 Tests, later this week.

Jos Buttler will take the gloves for the duel with 50-over World Cup runners-up New Zealand, which starts in Tauranga on November 20.

The second Test then starts in Hamilton on November 28. Neither match counts towards the World Test Championship.

England Test squad: Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Parkinson, Ollie Pope, Dominic Sibley, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes
