Liam Livingstone and Ben Foakes are among the beneficiaries of a new batch of central contracts announced by the ECB for the next 12 months.

Foakes, who has emerged as England's first choice Test keeper this year, and Livingstone, who is seen as an increasingly important component of the white-ball sides, have never previously received full contracts. Zak Crawley retains a full contract despite a lean year.

There are also first central contracts - albeit incremental contracts - for Harry Brook, Matthew Potts and Reece Topley.

But David Malan and Jason Roy drop from full contracts to incremental contracts and there is no form of contract for Alex Lees, the opening bat who has featured in England's 10 most recent Tests, or Rory Burns, who won a full contract last year. Dom Bess, Chris Jordan and Tom Curran, all of whom had incremental contracts last year, are also absent from the list while Eoin Morgan has retired.

In total 30 players have received Central Contract offers - 18 England annual central contracts, six England increment contracts, and six England pace bowling development contracts.

Brydon Carse, Matthew Fisher and Jamie Overton are offered pace bowling development contracts for the first time, while Jofra Archer retains a full contract despite not having been able to play international cricket since March 2021. Olly Stone and Saqib Mahmood also receive pace bowling development contracts despite their injury issues in recent months.

"I feel we have rewarded those players who have made a significant impact over the previous 12 months and those we expect to be part of England's plans over the next period,” managing director of England men’s cricket, Rob Key, said.

"The international game continues to evolve, and we must be mindful that we have to lead the way in player performance across the sport. The aim is to develop world-class players in all three formats as we strive to become the best team in the world.

"I would like to congratulate all the players offered agreements for the coming year. They will all play a pivotal role in England's efforts over the next 12 months.”

The system, which covers both red-ball and white-ball players, is designed to take into account the likelihood of players featuring in England teams across formats in the next 12 months, while also recognising performances in the preceding year.

The value of such contracts differs greatly depending on whether players are expected to be involved in both the Test and limited-overs teams. Those involved in all formats can expect to receive over £900,000 before match payments, with the value of some incremental contracts worth less than 10 per cent of that figure.
