Stokes has always been a champagne cricketer, with occasional matchwinning innings sprinkled amongst a lot of mediocrity. No one questions his commitment but the present situation demonstrates that without McCullum to lean on he's not got the X factor that inspires or motivates. His shot selection is back to instinctive. With the mediocre Buttler at the helm there's no real leadership evident.
