New Zealand batsman smashes T20 century in rapid time

Tim Seifert reached three figures in 40 balls in the Super Smash

Tim Seifert has smashed the fastest T20 century in New Zealand domestic cricket history.

The wicketkeeper-batsman clubbed 107 from 42 balls for Northern Districts against Auckland in the Super Smash on Saturday.

Seifert, who reached three figures off 40 balls, beat the record previously held by Jamie How. How had hit his hundred off 45 balls for Central Districts against Wellington in 2017.

It was the first time he had passed 50 in T20 matches.

Seifert hit nine fours and as many sixes as he contributed to Northern Districts' 214 for nine from their 20 overs.

"I didn't do as well as I wanted last night, so I was trying to come out and do better than yesterday," he said afterwards, reflecting on his three from nine deliveries in a game the previous evening.

"It was just one of those nights that go your way - a couple of mis-hits which went for six - it was enjoyable."
