Leicestershire allrounder, 19, retires from cricket

Will Fazakerley said he was pursuing opportunities outside of the sport

Nineteen-year-old Leicestershire all-rounder Will Fazakerley has retired from professional cricket.

The teenager, who made his first-class debut for the county in July, has chosen to walk away from the sport to pursue another career path.

Fazakerley also played for Guernsey and was handed his first pro deal last year, prior to making his County Championship bow against Sussex at Arundel.

He took one wicket for Leicestershire.

"I’d like to thank everybody for giving me the opportunity to play professional cricket but I have decided that now is the right time to pursue opportunities outside of cricket," Fazackerley told the club's official website.

Leicestershire chief executive Wasim Khan said: "We fully understand Will’s decision to look for a different direction in his life outside of professional cricket and we wish him all the very best in the future."

Fazackerley had come through Sussex's youth system before moving to Grace Road.
