Griffiths took 36 County Championship wickets at 24.50 in 2018 including career-best match figures of 10 for 83 against Durham
Leicestershire have announced that bowler Gavin Griffiths has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension until the end of the 2020 season.
Griffiths took 36 County Championship wickets at 24.50 in 2018 including career-best match figures of 10 for 83 against Durham. The 24-year-old also chipped in with a handy 225 Championship runs at 22.50 and a top score of 40.
The bowler also claimed five wickets in seven Vitality Blast fixtures and eight scalps in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Griffiths said: “I’ve relished being a part of the Foxes over the last two years and I’m delighted that will continue over the next two seasons. After a tough year in 2017 I enjoyed the 2018 season with bat and ball, and feel that my game came on a great deal last season working with Paul Nixon, John Sadler and bowling coach Matt Mason. They all gave me a belief in my own game that I was probably lacking the year before.
“As a team I think we made massive strides last season and with the exciting signings we have made so far I think 2019 could be a big year for the Foxes.”
Head coach Paul Nixon said: “Gav is an integral part of our bowling attack, and his game has progressed massively under the watchful eye of Matt Mason. He has excellent skills in all formats of the game, and his batting has also come on nicely. Gav has taken on the role of nightwatchman and applies those skills of concentration and bravery when batting in the lower order.
“With Muhammad Abbas, Chris Wright, Neil Dexter, Will Davis, Tom Taylor, Ben Mike and Dieter Klein on our roster, we have a lot of seam bowling options, and Gav is a key part of that unit.”
