The franchise began their existence in the CPL as Zouks in 2013, before being rebranded as St Lucia Stars in 2017 and returning to their original name in 2019
Caribbean Premier League side St Lucia Zouks have changed their name to become St Lucia Kings, their second change in two years.
The franchise began their existence in the CPL as Zouks in 2013, before being rebranded as St Lucia Stars in 2017.
In 2019, however, they returned to their original name after tournament organisers terminated their agreement with the team’s owners.
The St Lucia franchise has since come under the ownership of K.P.H. Dream Cricket Private Limited, who also run the Punjab Kings franchise – formerly Kings XI Punjab – in the Indian Premier League. That relationship forms the basis of the change to become St Lucia Kings.
Commenting on the new brand, Darren Sammy, the team’s assistant coach and mentor, said: “I love the logo and I love the new name. It’s a pleasure to be associated with the Kings franchise and I truly hope that the name can inspire our players to play like the true Kings that we are.”
Last season, Zouks finished as runners-up to Trinbago Knight Riders, who are also owned by an organisation with IPL influence. Red Chillies Entertainment, the parent company of Kolkata Knight Riders, bought a stake in the team – then known as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel – in 2015.
