Yorkshire have recruited West Indies international Shannon Gabriel for their next three LV= Insurance County Championship matches.

The 34-year-old pace bowler will be available to face Surrey, Somerset and Hampshire later this month.

Gabriel has taken 318 wickets at 30.91 in 118 first-class appearances, including 161 wickets at 31.84 in 56 Test appearances for West Indies.

He replaces Pakistan international Haris Rauf, who took 15 wickets in four appearances during the first half of the season, and will add valuable experience to an attack which, Steven Patterson aside, has been heavily reliant on younger bowlers like Dom Bess, Jordan Thompson and Matthew Revis.

Interim managing director of cricket, Darren Gough, said: "We are delighted to have signed Shannon for the next three County Championship matches and are very much looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in a Yorkshire shirt.

"With two of the next three games coming at Scarborough, which has been one of the quickest surfaces in the country for a number of years, his pace will be a real asset to us.

"I think it’s fair to say supporters at North Marine Road will be entertained watching him and I’m sure he will play his part in bringing us some success over the next month."

Gabriel will become the second West Indies international to represent Yorkshire in 2022, following Dominic Drakes short stint as a replacement signing for Shadab Khan, and has previously turned out for Gloucestershire and Worcestershire in the County Championship, collecting a five-for the latter in 2015.
