Sri Lanka Test seamer Vishwa Fernando will join Yorkshire for their next three County Championship matches as a second overseas player.

The 32-year-old, whose next wicket will be his 300th in first-class cricket, could make his debut during next week's visit to Northamptonshire starting on May 24, the final match of the ongoing red-ball block.

After a break for the T20 Blast, Fernando is then available for the visit to Scarborough of Gloucestershire (June 23) and a trip to Derbyshire (June 30).

Head coach Ottis Gibson has been battling with depleted resources during the opening rounds with Matt Milnes, Mickey Edwards and Matthew Fisher all missing matches.

Captain Shan Masood has been Yorkshire's standalone overseas player during the opening six rounds of the season.

Fernando, who has 64 wickets in 23 Tests, played twice on loan at Durham last September and took seven wickets at 22.42.

In March, he bowled Sri Lanka to a 2-0 Test series victory over Bangladesh, taking 10 wickets.

He has joined up with the Yorkshire squad during the ongoing Championship match at Sussex.

Masood, the Pakistan Test captain, and South African Donovan Ferreira are already confirmed as the Vikings' overseas players for the Blast.
