The evergreen Derbyshire was speaking as the latest guest on The Cricketer's County Conversation podcast
Wayne Madsen has detailed how he prepared to hit a match-saving century against Yorkshire after an evening suffering a reaction to antibiotics.
The 40-year-old Derbyshire batter dropped Finlay Bean on day one at Headingley, suffering a cut on his right hand that required a visit to hospital and eight stitches.
But the worst was still to come as he spent the evening before day two throwing up after taking antibiotics to treat the injury.
Ever the professional, Madsen closed on day two 88 not out and, after a washed-out third day, returned to complete a 47th professional century to help seal a draw and continue Derbyshire's unbeaten start to the new County Championship Division Two season.

Appearing as a special guest on episode five of The Cricketer's County Conversation podcast, he said: "On the morning of day one I put down a catch at first slip and did my webbing between my ring finger and middle finger.
"I had to make the trip to a couple of A&Es and a plastic surgeon to get it stitched up. "Eight stitches later I was ready to bat on day two.
"It was pretty deep. There were two internal stitches and a couple of external.
"I had a bad night on Friday as well. I reacted quite badly to the antibiotics and spent a couple of hours throwing up in the middle of the night. It wasn't a great Friday night.
"I slept in a little bit later to make sure I had enough rest before day two so it was a bit of a tough Friday."
