Warwickshire release batsman Liam Banks as contract expires

The 21-year-old has not featured in 2020 and his deal will not be renewed ahead of the new campaign

Liam Banks has been released by Warwickshire following the end of his contract.

The 21-year-old played 10 first-class matches, eight List A games, and six T20s for the club, scoring three half-centuries across the formats.

But after not featuring for the Edgbaston club in 2020, the decision has been taken to allow Banks to leave.

"It’s always disappointing when we have to let a former Academy graduate go," said sport director Paul Farbrace.

"Liam has given a huge amount to the Club during his time as a Bear and worked very hard to make the step into the professional arena.

"He leaves with good wishes of everyone at Warwickshire CCC and we wish him the very best in the next stage of his career."

Banks becomes the latest player to see their contract discontinued, with many others likely to be offloaded ahead of the 20201.

The Professional Cricketers' Association expect the COVID-19 pandemic to force as many as 70 players out of the sport this year, compared to an average of 35 every season.
