A new contract has been agreed for the 29-year-old, who is currently taking part in the SA20 with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, keeping him at Taunton until the end of the 2026 season
Tom Abell has committed his future to Somerset, two months after stepping down as captain of the county.
It was announced last week that Lewis Gregory would replace Abell at the helm after seven seasons in the role.
But a new contract has been agreed for the 29-year-old, who is currently taking part in the SA20 with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, keeping him at Taunton until the end of the 2026 season.
His previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season.
"Obviously, I'm delighted to be extending my stay with the club," he said. "There's been a bit of a change in the last month or so, but I can now just focus on playing and getting the best out of myself for Somerset.
"I'm a Somerset boy and when I was young, I dreamt of playing for the club. I've been fortunate to grow up here, and watching Somerset was inspirational for me as a kid. I've been lucky enough to represent the club for almost 10 years, and I can't imagine being anywhere else."

Andy Hurry, the county's director of cricket, described Abell as "a talisman…who epitomises everything that it means to play for the club".
"He has developed into a genuinely exceptional multi-format cricketer and is more determined than ever to ensure that Somerset are competing for silverware on all fronts."
Craig Overton, who is currently recovering from back surgery, was installed as Gregory's vice-captain last week.
