Sussex have signed George Burrows on a short-term contract for the first month of the 2022 season.

The 23-year-old pace bowler will be available for the club's first four matches in the LV= Insurance County Championship against Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire and Durham. He will also be eligible to play in Sussex's pre-season friendlies against Surrey (March 23-25) and Durham UCCE (March 28-30).

Burrows made two first-team appearances for Lancashire in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy, picking up four wickets, before taking 10 wickets at 45.70 in eight appearances for the second XI in 2021.

He also represented Sussex and Worcestershire in the Second XI Championship, picking up four wickets for the former against Durham, and was released by Lancashire at the end of the season.

Commenting on joining Sussex, Burrows said: "It's a privilege to get the opportunity down here at Hove, and hopefully I can have a positive impact on the first part of the season."

Head coach, Ian Salisbury, added: "George is a top lad whose impressed us with his bowling, attitude and determination. Everyone deserves a second chance and I'm sure working with James Kirtley can only benefit him and add something different to our bowling unit."

Burrows is the third new addition to Sussex's pace attack ahead of the 2022 season, joining allrounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice and former England international Steven Finn.

And with Ollie Robinson away with England until the end of March and struggling with back injuries, there is an opening in the Championship XI for Burrows to potentially make an impression.
