Nottinghamshire stalwart Steven Mullaney will captain the county in this year's T20 Blast.

He will replace Dan Christian whose period as captain ended when he returned to Australia to perform white-ball duties. He has since retired from professional cricket.

Mullaney already has experience of Blast leadership, leading Outlaws to the quarter-finals in 2021, where they lost to Hampshire. He is also the club's County Championship skipper and led Nottinghamshire to the Division Two title last summer.

Mullaney said: "Any opportunity to captain this great club and lead the lads onto the field is a massive honour so I can’t wait to get started in the Blast this summer."

He added: "We've got a really exciting group this year. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Colin Munro and Olly Stone are simply world-class T20 players as are so many of the lads we've had playing for us year in, year out in the Blast."

These feelings were echoed by head coach Peter Moores, who said: "Steven captained the side exceptionally well in 2021 and his ability to stay calm at crucial moments was a notable feature of his leadership."
