Samit Patel signs new deal at Nottinghamshire: 'I still feel at the top of my game'

The 37-year-old allrounder has played for the county since he was 16, has made 20,631 runs and taken 686 wickets in 603 games

Samit Patel has signed a contract extension with Nottinghamshire, keeping him at Trent Bridge until 2023.

The 37-year-old allrounder has played for the county since he was 16, has made 20,631 runs and taken 686 wickets in 603 games.

He will continue to play white-ball cricket only, having retired from red-ball cricket in 2020.

On signing his extension, Patel told the Nottinghamshire website: "This has been my club since day dot, so I am thrilled to bits to sign this extension and to be here for two more campaigns.

"I still feel at the top of my game, and I believe I still have a lot to offer, which my performances last season hopefully showed.

"Myself, Dan Christian and Alex Hales will come fresh into the squad ready for when the Blast begins, which will hopefully add some impetus and white-ball specialism to the group following the block of red-ball cricket at the start of the season.”

"Since stepping back from the first-class game, I've been able to tailor my training and preparation to limited-overs cricket, and that has benefited my performances.

"I am really excited to have at least two more years of playing in front of packed houses at Trent Bridge and striving to deliver some more glory."

This year's Vitality Blast will be the 20th domestic T20 competition in England and Wales; Patel will have featured in all 20. He has also played in several overseas franchise tournaments and picked up 54 white-ball caps for England.

Nottinghamshire coach Peter Moores said: "We know all about the class and quality Samit brings to our T20 side. He's been a match-winner for us on so many occasions in the past.

"He's become hugely dependable with the ball and has the ability to bowl match-defining overs at different stages of the innings.

"With the bat, we've seen games won from so many different and challenging situations when Samit is at the crease."

"He has a knack for turning it on in the most important matches and on the big stage too."

Notts Outlaws will get their Vitality Blast campaign underway against Worcestershire Rapids on May 27.
