Roman Walker has left Glamorgan to join Leicestershire.

The 20-year-old allrounder - a graduate of the Glamorgan academy and former England Under 19 international - will make the move on loan initially before swapping Sophia Gardens for Grace Road on a permanent basis at the end of the county season.

He turned down the offer of a new contract in South Wales to relocate to the East Midlands.

Walker said: “I have really loved my time at Glamorgan. The players, staff and supporters have been so good with me over the past few years and I am going to miss them dearly.

“My decision to leave to join Leicestershire is for a better opportunity to play across all three formats.

“It was a tough decision but ultimately one I feel is right for my career.”

Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace said: “It’s always disappointing when you lose a player that you have invested a lot in developing from a young age.

“We have enjoyed watching Roman's progress from the age groups to the first team and we wish him the best of luck for the future.”
