Derbyshire have signed Pakistan international batsman Shan Masood as an overseas player for 2022.

Masood, who has four Test centuries to his name, will join the club in all formats for the whole of the new English county summer.

The 32-year-old's arrival is a sign of intent from Derbyshire, who recently confirmed the recruitment of Mickey Arthur - the Sri Lanka head coach - to lead their backroom staff.

Masood is a genuine all-format player, who has 25 Test caps and five one-day international appearances to his name.

He has also captained Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League, and will certainly bolster Derbyshire Falcons' T20 lineup.

His record in the format includes a century and nine further scores of 50 or more, in addition to a strike rate of a shade under 120, from 81 matches.

Masood is more than able in English condition. In 2020, he made an excellent 156 for Pakistan against England at Old Trafford - his career best score. It was his third century in as many innings for Pakistan: the sixth among his countrymen to do so.

The left-hander's family home was in London and he made significant runs as a schoolboy in England. In 2009, he accumulated more than 1,200 for Stamford School - located 55 miles south east of Derby's Incora County Ground - and went on to represent Durham University.

Masood was among Arthur's priority targets following his confirmation as head coach - he played under the South African for three years during Arthur's time with Pakistan - and brings both experience and leadership to the Derbyshire squad.

He said: "Playing county cricket in England is something I've always wanted to do, so when Mickey approached me to join Derbyshire, I jumped at the chance.

"He's perhaps been the greatest influence in my career and I'm looking forward to working with him again at Derbyshire.

"It's an exciting time for the club and hopefully I can contribute at the top of the order and use my experience to help the younger players in their development."
