One more year of Ben Charlesworth at Gloucestershire: "We can achieve great things"

The exciting 22-year-old batter will remain at the club, where he has been part of the first team set up since he was 17, until at least the end of the 2024 season

Gloucestershire have tied down batter Ben Charlesworth to a new one-year deal.

The 22-year-old is 24 first-class matches and 10 List A games into his senior career.

Charlesworth got his 2023 campaign off to a respectable start with a tenacious 87 in the recent County Championship draw at Derbyshire last week.

Despite enduring a 2022 season blighted by a spell out due to a foot injury, he returned to feature in Gloucestershire's final three games of the Championship season.

His reputation has grown since he became the club's youngest player in 70 years to register a half-century, hitting an unbeaten 77 against Middlesex in 2018.

"I'm really pleased to be able to continue representing this great club," he said.

"I hope I can contribute toward success for the team in the coming years, and I fully believe we can achieve great things with the playing group we currently have."

Performance director Steve Snell added: "I'm really pleased Ben has agreed to extend his contract with Gloucestershire, he has been with us for a number of years and has shown undoubted promise with the bat and ball.

"I definitely think Ben has an exciting future in the game and it was brilliant to see him score a very well-compiled 87 vs Derbyshire. I'm sure Ben will continue to go from strength to strength and provide a backbone for Gloucestershire's batting in years to come."
