Olly Stone will join Nottinghamshire from Warwickshire at the end of the season on a three-year deal.

As revealed by The Cricketer, the 28-year-old has turned down a new contract to move to Trent Bridge when his contract expires.

Stone joined the reigning county champions in 2017 from Northamptonshire, taking 124 wickets in 55 appearances across the formats.

He has played three Tests and four one-day internationals for England and remains on the radar as one of the quickest bowlers in the country.

"I have always had good games against Nottinghamshire, and I love playing at Trent Bridge," Stone said. "It is a great ground, and when the option came up to make it my home, it was really exciting.

"I feel physically in the best shape I have been in, and the ball is coming out nicely. My pace is where it needs to be, now it is just about putting a run of games together and performances in to back it up."

Notts head coach Peter Moores added: "Olly is a fantastic bowler across all formats, as he has shown across a long period of time, and his pace and aggression have proved a handful in the games he has played against us."

Stone hasn't played a first-class match since the second New Zealand Test at Edgbaston in June 2021 but played 10 times on Birmingham Bears' run to the T20 Blast quarter-finals, taking 13 wickets.

Though part of the Birmingham Phoenix squad for the men's Hundred, he is expected to sit out the competition and may not play again this season.

In the latest in the catalogue of fitness problems, Stone suffered a finger injury while playing for Warwickshire seconds and is awaiting the results of a scan.

Warwickshire will now turn their attention to bolstering their seam attack, having already signed up Moeen Ali and Ed Barnard ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Director of cricket Paul Farbrace said: "While it's disappointing that Olly has made this decision, we of course respect it and wish him all the best for the future.

"We know our bowling attack is an area we need to strengthen, and we have already made some movements as we look to enhance the squad for 2023, in addition to the recent signings of all-rounders Ed Barnard and Moeen Ali."
