Nottinghamshire defeat to Glamorgan "a slight wake-up call" says Ben Duckett

The Division Two promotion favourites were beaten by seven wickets in their opening home game of the new campaign

Ben Duckett warns Nottinghamshire can't expect the rest of LV=Insurance County Championship Division Two to simply roll over after a surprise defeat to Glamorgan at Trent Bridge.

The promotion favourites were beaten by seven wickets in the second round of matches after David Lloyd's side chased down 166 to clinch a victory on day four.

Duckett was one of the few positives to emerge from the reverse, hitting 122 and 95 to give Notts hope.

Peter Moores' team had opened the season with a 10-wicket win over Sussex but were given a thump back down to earth in round two.

"It’s disappointing and, if I’m honest, a slight wake-up call," said Duckett, courtesy of the ECB Reporters Network. "There are going to be tough games in this division and that was one of them.

"I just feel like we were outplayed really, from the start, and sometimes you do have to take your hat off to the opposition and say well done.

"The way they bowled, I certainly had to work for most of my runs and the way (Timm) Van der Gugten bowled really won them the game.

"The toss was crucial but there were little periods where we got it wrong and they killed us.

"For myself, I’m happy to have started that way and the main thing is that there are a lot of games to come and there are positives we can take from this."

Notts were able to call upon James Pattinson and Dane Paterson for the first time this season, but they remain without England's second all-time leading Test wicket-taker Stuart Broad.

Aussie Pattinson claimed match figures of 2 for 168, while Paterson fared slightly better - returning 3 for 100.

"It is early in the year and not many people win the division and go unbeaten throughout the whole summer," added Duckett, whose side are back in action against Durham on Thursday (April 21).

"We are disappointed but there is no point in us getting down about this because we are straight into another difficult game.

"We had two overseas who have just got off the plane this week. Dane was fantastic all game but Jimmy would admit that he was not quite at it this week. Hopefully, those two boys fire next week."
