Northamptonshire snap up Australian seamer for three-match stint

Chris Tremain brings almost 300 first-class wickets and a solid average of 24 to Wantage Road. He also boasts nine five-wicket hauls in 170 apperances

Chris Tremain has joined Northamptonshire on a short-term County Championship deal.

The three-match stint will be Australian seamer Tremain's first experience of English domestic cricket.

"Playing county cricket has always been a bucket list thing for me, so I'm really excited to play for Northamptonshire and grateful for the opportunity," he said.

Tremain brings almost 300 first-class wickets and a solid average of 24 to Wantage Road. He also boasts nine five-wicket hauls in 170 apperances.

"It's been a pretty quick turnaround from the end of our season, so I'm glad we could get everything sorted in time to get me on the plane," said the quick, who turned out for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield.

"I'm really excited to meet my teammates and get stuck in for round one."

Tremain is Northants' second Australian recruit for the Championship season, after Sam Whiteman.

Whiteman was a key part of the player joining, according to head coach John Sadler.

"Sam rates him highly which is always a good sign to have which is always nice to have that respect from your opposition," Sadler said.

Tremain and Whiteman were due to arrive in Northampton on Monday (April 3), with both expected to be available for selection in the club's opening LV= Insurance County Championship fixture against Kent from Thursday.
