Lewis McManus will stay with Northamptonshire for another four weeks after having his loan move from Hampshire extended.

The 27-year-old was signed on an initial 28-day deal less than a fortnight before the start of the new season.

It came after a furore involving Adam Rossington, who joined Essex on loan after being declared "unavailable for selection" and being stripped of the captaincy.

The extension takes in the remainder of the red-ball block - Northants face Surrey, Warwickshire and Kent next month - before the T20 Blast gets underway in late May.

McManus has made a solid start to life at Wantage Road, scoring a single half-century and taking six dismissals across two outings against Yorkshire and Gloucestershire.

His 141-ball 62 not out played a major role in Northants batting out the game to secure a draw with Yorkshire last week.

Selected to face Essex at Chelmsford during this week's fourth round of games, McManus made seven in Northants' first innings.

Head coach John Sadler said: "It was great that he was able to perform as he did on Sunday and really good that he was there not out at the end, he batted really well.

"I have been there myself when you go to a new club, and it is always nice to make a telling contribution as it really helps you to settle down in your new surroundings."
