Middlesex have signed Mitchell Marsh as their second overseas player for this season’s T20 Blast.

The Australian allrounder had been due to join the county in 2020, but his deal was cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He follows Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman in adding to Stuart Law’s squad for the competition and will be available for the entire group stage, with the option to extend his stay should Middlesex reach the quarter-final, as they did in 2019.

Marsh was a key player as Perth Scorchers reached the Big Bash final over the winter, while he has also featured in the Indian Premier League for Rising Pune Supergiant, Pune Warriors and Deccan Chargers.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Middlesex again, a club with such rich history,” said Marsh. “I can’t wait to get over and join my team-mates and hopefully win some silverware for the club.”

Law, Middlesex’s head coach, added: “It will be great to have a player like Mitch in our squad for the T20 Blast this year. On field, he provides experience, power an aggression, while off the field, will be great in a team environment and will add to the change in the dressing room we are after. We look forward to welcoming Mitch later in the year.”

Without their overseas recruits last year – and with T20 captain Eoin Morgan also absent due to the restrictions of England’s bio-secure bubble, Stevie Eskinazi led a youthful team, finishing fourth in the south group.
