Middlesex have signed New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell for the 2021 T20 Blast.

The 30-year-old is available for the final nine group matches, replacing Mitchell Marsh who is unavailable for the domestic T20 tournament after being selected for Australia’s tour of West Indies.

On May 19, the county announced the signing of Ireland international Paul Stirling for the first five matches of the Blast.

Allrounder Mitchell has scored 2,110 runs and taken 48 wickets in 108 career T20 appearances, enjoying spells with Northern Districts and Canterbury in his native country.

He made his international debut against India in February 2019 and has gone on to make 15 T20I appearances for the Black Caps, scoring 148 runs and collecting five wickets. Mitchell has also made four Test appearances and played in three ODIs.

Commenting on signing for Middlesex, Mitchell said: "I am really honoured to have signed with Middlesex and to be able to call Lord’s my home for the Vitality Blast.

"I’m looking forward to meeting up with the group after our Test Championship final versus India and getting stuck into winning some T20 cricket."

Meanwhile, head coach, Stuart Law, said: "It’s great that Daryl has agreed to play for us in the T20 Blast this season.

"He comes highly recommended by his New Zealand contemporaries and we have watched him force his way into that strong New Zealand team over the last few years. He brings an all-round game, with a focus on power hitting, and good cricket intellect.
