Potts was the leading wicket-taker in England's series win over New Zealand, and he heads into the series against South Africa just four short of 100 in first-class cricket
Matthew Potts has signed a two-year contract extension with Durham on the same day that he was named in England's side for the first Test against South Africa at Lord's.
The seamer has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough summer, born out of his form in the LV= Insurance County Championship at the start of the season, which was followed by a Test debut at Lord's against New Zealand, where he took seven wickets in Ben Stokes' first match as captain.
The 23-year-old first represented Durham 14 years ago, and he is the latest academy product to play for England.
"I am delighted to sign an extension with Durham and commit a further two years to the club," he said. "I am looking forward to the future and what the club can achieve over this next period."

Potts was the leading wicket-taker in the series win over New Zealand, and he heads into the series against South Africa just four short of 100 in first-class cricket.
He picked up the best first-class figures of his career against Glamorgan earlier this season. In a campaign dominated by dry weather and excellent batting conditions, he has claimed 36 County Championship wickets at just 20.69 apiece.
"We are thrilled that Matthew has agreed to extend his contract with us at Durham," added Marcus North, Durham's director of cricket. "He has continued to progress and develop in recent years and that was evident with his England call up earlier this summer."
