Northamptonshire have a fourth different LV= Insurance County Championship captain in less than a year after Luke Procter was confirmed to lead the red-ball team in 2023.

Ricardo Vasconcelos replaced Adam Rossington on the eve of last season before overseas batter Will Young took over from July.

Lancashire academy graduate Procter first joined Northants on loan in 2017, before remaining on a permanent basis.

He has played 58 first-class matches for Northamptonshire, scoring 2,996 runs at 36.98, hitting four centuries. With the ball, he has 59 wickets at 38.66

"I'm incredibly honoured to be asked to captain Northamptonshire in the County Championship," Procter said.

"I've been at the club for a few years now so it's a really proud moment for me to take on this new challenge."

Lewis McManus will be Procter's right-hand man after being confirmed as vice-captain in the four-day format.

Next season's primary objective will again be trying to remain in Division One, following last term's sixth-place finish - their best performance for 27 years.

"The lads were brilliant last season, we showed we're here to fight hard and compete and I'm looking forward to leading this group in 2023," Procter, Northamptonshire's leading Championship run-scorer in 2022, added.

"We know it will be tough, it's Division One so it’s meant to be hard, but there's so much talent in this squad and we're up for the fight for sure."
