County Cricket: Signings, transfers, squad updates

Leicestershire have signed Australian international Marcus Harris for the 2021 County Championship and Royal London Cup campaigns.

The 28-year old opener will join up with the county once Victoria’s Sheffield Shield campaign is over and will return to his domestic side in Australia in time for the start of their 2021-22 season.

Left-hander Harris has 6,733 first-class runs in 103 fixtures, averaging 38.47 and recording 14 centuries. He had also made 10 appearances for Australia, scoring 428 runs.

With the white-ball, the Perth-native has 1,231 runs in 45 List A matches and averages 29.3 in 50-over cricket.

Harris is yet to play domestic cricket in England but said he is looking forward to his spell at Leicestershire.

"I am delighted to have signed for Leicestershire for the 2021 season and cannot wait to get up and running within English domestic cricket," he said.

"To play domestic cricket in England has always been an ambition of mine and I am looking forward to pulling on the Running Fox and performing for the loyal Foxes family."

Meanwhile, head coach, Paul Nixon, said: "Marcus is a high-class opening batsman and will add both quality experience to the top of our batting order. He has an excellent first-class record in the Sheffield Shield.

"He has represented Australia at the highest level in the test match arena and will also add a high-class option to our 50-over side, which also fits the bill with Colin Ackermann winning selection for Manchester Originals in The Hundred."
