Worcestershire have confirmed the departure of Ben Cox to Leicestershire.

As previously reported by The Cricketer, Cox has chosen to move on from New Road after 14 years in the Pears' senior side, having turned down a white-ball contract at Worcester.

He will make an initial loan switch to Leicestershire, before a permanent contract comes into force from October 1.

Cox, one of the sharpest wicketkeepers on the county circuit, made his Worcestershire debut as a teenager in 2009 and has been a stalwart of the club since.

"Leaving Worcestershire is a bittersweet moment for me. This club has been my cricketing home for 22 years, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunities, experiences, successes and memories that I've had here at Worcestershire," he said.

"I want to thank my teammates, the coaching staff, and the incredible Worcestershire supporters who have been my extended family for so long. I'm excited for the new challenge ahead and in particular getting back to playing all three formats, but Worcestershire will always hold a special place in my heart."

The 31-year-old's primary reason for leaving Worcestershire was a desire to play all formats going forward. He has signed a three-year deal at Grace Road to do just that.

"Ever since meeting with Claude [Henderson, Leicestershire director of cricket] and Titch [James Taylor, interim joint head coach], I felt valued instantly and there's no doubt that the journey Leicester are heading on is an exciting one."

Worcestershire head coach Alan Richardson was glowing in his praise of Cox, with whom he played earlier in his career.

"Ben has been an integral part of Worcestershire cricket, and it's been an absolute privilege to witness his growth and development over the years," he said.

"His work ethic and commitment have been an inspiration to all of us. It's been remarkable to see him evolve into the outstanding cricketer he is today. Ben will always hold a special place in the hearts of Worcestershire supporters, and his legacy here will endure."
