Matt Parkinson has joined Durham from Lancashire on a two-week loan following injury to Matt Kuhnemann.

The 26-year-old goes straight into the team to face Derbyshire in the County Championship, starting on Thursday (April 27).

Kuhnemann, who replaced Todd Murphy at Durham, suffered a back problem during the draw with Glamorgan last week and was unable to take to the field on day four.

Medical personnel will continue to assess the Australian, with an update regarding his fitness to follow.

Parkinson, who has represented England 12 times across formats, has only featured in one of Lancashire's opening three Championship matches.

It came during the opening round draw with defending champions Surrey, taking 5 for 120 in the second innings.

The stint at Chester-le-Street is for a two-week period but covers just a single Championship match.

Lancashire director of cricket performance Mark Chilton said: "Following conversations between Matt and the club's coaching staff, it was agreed that game time in the County Championship would be preferable.

"Earlier this week, an opportunity arose for Matt to join Durham on loan and the deal has been agreed between both counties and the player.

"This is a great opportunity for him to get some more overs under his belt in a more competitive environment. We are looking forward to seeing how he performs and to welcoming him back into the squad."
