The 43-year-old, who has held various coaching positions in Australia, will remain with Somerset until at least the end of the 2023 season
Lachlan Stevens has joined Somerset's coaching staff as a batting and assistant coach.
The 43-year-old Australian will remain with the club until at least the end of the 2023 season.
Stevens, who enjoyed a brief playing career with Queensland, was appointed head coach of Western Australia and Perth Scorchers in 2011, replacing Mickey Arthur, before resigning 12 months later. He went on to coach Victoria and Melbourne Renegades, assisting with both the men's and women's sides.
At Somerset, he will serve under head coach, Jason Kerr.
Commenting on joining Somerset, Stevens said: "I'm really excited to be part of the Somerset coaching team and I'm looking forward to catching up and working with Jason and all the staff.

"I'm also really looking forward to working with and getting to know Tom [Abell] and the whole squad as we work our way through the season and continue to build on the foundations that are already in place."
Director of cricket, Andy Hurry, added: "Lachlan has coached at a very high level at Western Australia, Perth Scorchers and Victoria, and he brings with him a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience.
"He has successfully undertaken a variety of roles throughout his coaching career, during which time he has been a part of three Sheffield Shield titles, a domestic one-day title and was a Big Bash winner with Melbourne Renegades in 2019.
"He is a coach of outstanding character and has a proven track record of building great relationships. In addition to this, he is a terrific mentor, a great exponent of skill acquisition and has a proven background of guiding aspirational players through to the international arena.
"We are all looking forward to working with him, and I sense everybody at the club will profit from his technical and strategic understanding of the game. I know we are going to benefit hugely from his appointment."
