English cricket has continued to mark the sad passing of Josh Baker, with black armbands being worn by players and county flags being flown at half-mast during the fifth round of County Championship matches.

A "devastated" Worcestershire announced the passing of the 20-year-old left-arm spinner on Thursday (May 2), sparking an outpouring of grief across the game.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan, ex-Worcestershire captain and current PCA chief Daryl Mitchell and Ashley Giles, CEO at the New Road club, led the tributes in the immediate aftermath of the news.

Just five matches are scheduled across Divisions One and Two this week; at Old Trafford, Taunton, Derby, Lord's and Headingley.

Players on all sides are wearing black armbands while county flags at the grounds are being flown at half-mast.

A minute's silence took place at the County Ground and Headingley before play began on time at 11am. Rain forced a delayed start at Lord's but a period of reflection will also be observed. The matches at Lancashire and Somerset did not.

The Cricketer understands no specific directive was issued by the ECB regarding tributes, with clubs permitted to mark Baker's passing how they wished during this round.
